My new print features the fabulous Freddie Gilroy sculpture which is overlooking the north bay in Scarborough. The sculpture was made by artist Ray Lonsdale & is double scale! making the figure 11 feet long!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Freddie was a former soldier who participated in the liberation of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, sitting on a bench in his old age. Gilroy was a friend of the sculptor and the piece partly a tribute to him, but also as a wider war & Holocaust memorial.
Originally intended to sit on the seafront as a 4-week loan in 2011, a local resident donated money to purchase the sculpture for the town.
It is a very popular Scarborough landmark & people can be seen queuing to have their photos taken with Freddie & he even has his own instagram account, check it out here. For scale here’s a photo of me sat next to him recently…

Is there any chance of a print of the PHOTO of Freddie Gilroy which is above your artwork. I love your artwork but there is something very haunting about that photo. Fresh back from Scarborough yesterday and the sculpture had big impact
